Beginner's E-Stim Advice Guides

Complete Beginner's Guide

We all have to start somewhere, so in this Beginner’s Guide to Erotic ElectroStimulation we’re going to teach you all about using electro-stimulation to enhance your sex life and answer some popular questions to help you understand how it all works. Think of it like Electro Sex For Beginners 101! Beginners E-stim can be a little bit daunting as there's a lot of information to take in, but once you understand how and why it works, the limits are your imagination!

Electro sex toys are becoming increasingly popular with men, women and couples even though they’re not a new concept. Erotic electro-stimulation devices have been around since the 1700s, long before vibrators and other battery-powered sex toys made their way onto the market. They’ve come a long way since their conception and modern devices are safer, more stylish and a lot more fun than their antique cousins.

What Is Erotic Electro-Stimulation?

Erotic electro stimulation (EES) is the practise of using an electrical current for sexual stimulation. That might sound pretty scary if the concept is completely new to you but with a little education and the right equipment, EES is both safe and incredibly pleasurable. The entire ElectraStim range was designed especially for intimate use so when you buy ElectraStim products you can be confident that you’re buying something which is fit for purpose.

How Does Electro Stimulation Work?

Electro-stimulation passes a low-voltage current through your body to stimulate your erogenous zones. If you’ve ever tried a battery-powered waist toning belt or a TENS machine for muscle pain, you’ll have some idea as to how our stimulators work. However, ElectraStim products are designed solely for pleasure.

The mild electrical current sensitises your body to improve your erotic response by gently shocking the sensitive nerve endings under your skin. Stimulating your nerves makes them more alert so that your body has a heightened response to touch. This means that you could feel more sexual pleasure than usual when using ElectraStim sex toys during masturbation, foreplay and sex. The mild currents can also encourage increased blood flow to the areas surrounding the electrode, escalating the physical signs of sexual arousal and further sensitising your intimate areas.

Is Electro-Stimulation Painful?

Power levels vary in intensity. On lower levels EES feels like a vibration-like tickle accompanied by throbbing muscle contractions. The throbbing becomes more intense at higher levels and the tickle develops into a prickle that feels similar to pins and needles. The aim is to find the level that creates pleasurable contractions in your erotic muscles, just take it one level at a time. Electro-stimulation rarely feels painful unless you are using a high power setting.

The electrical current stimulates at a deeper level than vibrations so the erotic sensations are often more intense than those experienced with other sex toys for both men and women. Some people find that EES can induce orgasm without the need for further stimulation, especially when stimulation is focused on the prostate, penis, clitoral shaft or vagina. This is called a hands free orgasm or 'HFO'.

What Do I Need To Experiment With Electro Play?

All you need to get started is an electro stimulator and either 1 bi-polar or 2 uni-polar electrodes. You can tell whether electrodes are bi-polar or uni-polar by reading the product descriptions. Most of our kits come with a set of conductive pads included, allowing you to experiment with external stimulation and couple’s play without buying additional electrodes.

Our most popular stimulators, the Flick and Flick Duo both include a stimulator and 4 uni-polar self-adhesive ElectraPads (uni-polar conductive pads that you stick against your body) so you can start playing straight from the box. Because all of our electro-stimulators and electrodes are compatible with one another, you can expand the kits with any number of electro sex toys for a customised experience.

For the ultimate beginner’s experience we recommend the ElectraStim EM60-M. This multipack includes our EM60 rechargeable stimulator, all of the necessary cables, a vaginal/anal probe, a pair of electro penis loops, 4 self-adhesive pads, a tube of conductive gel and a sample of water-based lubricant.

What Is The Difference Between An ElectraStim Stimulator And A TENS Machine?

ElectraStim stimulators are especially programmed for intimate stimulation, so they’re better able to create erotic sensations than regular TENS devices. We’ve also designed a wide variety of compatible electrodes shaped and sized specifically for intimate stimulation, something that can be hard to achieve with a non-specialist stimulator.

We use universal 2mm pin connections that allow you to use any combination of ElectraStim stimulators and electrodes both now and in the future, so there’s no need to source adaptors or buy a new stimulator to try new electrodes. You’ll also find the variety of electrodes available for TENS machines is very limited whereas our range is always expanding.

Is E-Stim Safe? How Can I Ensure My Safety?

E-stim won’t shock you like mains power would, but make sure you follow the instructions. We’ve added a range of features to our stimulators to make them safe for intimate use. When you buy an ElectraStim stimulator, you can be confident that it’s well made with safety features to protect you during play.

To ensure safe play you should follow these basic safety rules:

Never Use Electrodes Above the Waist: All of our stimulators and electrodes are designed to be worn below the waist. You should never pass an electrical current through the chest, so nipple play should be avoided.

Never Use Stimulators and Electrodes in or Around Water: Electrical currents and water shouldn’t mix. It’s unlikely that you’ll seriously hurt yourself but you will break your stimulator! You can use lubricants and conductive gels with your electrodes but you should avoid getting moisture inside them.

Always Check Your Electrodes, Stimulators and Cables for Damage: If you find any damage then you should not use your stimulator or electrodes. The most likely parts to get damaged are the connecting wires or charging wires and these can be replaced by shopping in our cables and adaptors section. If your stimulator or electrodes have become damaged you should contact us to repair or replace them. If the damage is due to a manufacturing default and they are within warranty, we will replace or repair them for free.

YOU SHOULD NOT USE ANY ELECTRO-SEX DEVICE IF:

– You suffer from any form of heart condition
– You have inflamed, swollen or broken skin where you wish to apply the electrodes
– You are pregnant
– You are fitted with any form of mechanical medical device i.e. pace maker
– You suffer from epilepsy
– You suffer from any form of penile, vaginal or anal disorder or infection

What Are Electro Sex Toys (and how do I use them)?

Electro sex toys (sometimes just referred to as electrodes) transmit an electrical signal that stimulates your intimate areas. They create a mild tingling sensation on lower levels and when you hit just the right power level (everyone is different), your muscles will start clenching and relaxing in time with stimulation. The sensations are intensely sexy and have been described as feeling similar to the contractions you experience during orgasm and hands-free thrusting. Orgasmic!

To use any of our electrodes you will need an electro stimulator. The stimulator is a power pack with built-in controls that provides the electrical sensations you’ll feel during play. Stimulators include a connecting wire with two 2mm pins on the end that slot into our electrodes and you need to connect both pins to feel sensation. You can use one bi-polar electrode or two uni-polar electrodes to complete the circuit and you must make sure that the electrode/s are in contact with your body before play. You can tell if an electrode is uni-polar or bi-polar by reading the product descriptions.

Using ElectraStim sex toys is really easy. Follow the instructions provided with your stimulator and chosen electrodes to get yourself ready for play. Different types of electrodes have different preparation steps so always read the instructions even if you’re used to using sex toys.

Once your electrodes are connected in place you can switch on the stimulator and choose a stimulation setting and power level. All stimulators start off with a continuous stream of stimulation and a level 0 power setting, so you won’t feel anything until you increase the power level. Slowly increase the power until you can feel sensation through the electrode/s.

When you can feel stimulation, experiment with the pattern settings. Patterns range in speed, style and output to create a range of different sensations. Experimentation will help you find the best pattern settings to pique your arousal and you may find that you like different patterns with different electrodes.

Not all electrodes produce the same level intensity. The smaller the contact area on the electrode, the more intense power levels will feel. This means you’ll probably want to use a higher power setting for electrodes with bigger contacts and a lower power setting for electrodes with smaller contacts. us

Once you’ve found the right settings for you, you can use our electro sex toys just like any other sex toy. Dildos can be twisted and thrusted to increase sensations and electro cock rings can be worn at the base of the penis during sex. You can even share sex toys with your partner when you each connect an electrode to the same connecting wire. Not only will you feel sensation around the electrodes, you’ll also experience it everywhere you touch! Now there’s something your average sex toy can’t manage.

What About Electro Sex Dildos? How Do They Work?

The humble dildo is one of the first sex toys ever created, with one historical example dating all the way back to 30,000 years ago! Initially crafted out of stone, dildos have gone through many incarnations to become the smooth and sleek sex toys made from glass, silicone and metal that we buy today.

Dildos differ from vibrators because they don’t have any internal mechanisms, they are quite simply material made into a phallic shape. Our electro dildos are somewhere in between vibrators and dildos because although they don’t include any internal components to bring them to life, they can be connected to our ElectraStim Stimulators to give them a range of unique sensations that no other sex toy type can replicate.

What Is An Electro Dildo?

An electro dildo is any sort of insertable toy that’s designed to conduct electrical signals. Some electro dildos come with everything already built in, but generally it’s better to have a dildo electrode that connects to a stimulator. Separate dildos and electro-stimulators give you a better degree of control over stimulation, tend to have more patterns and intensity settings plus you can also use stimulators with a wide range of other electrodes.

How To Buy And Use An ElectraStim Electro Dildo

You will need to buy an ElectraStim Stimulator in order to power your electro dildo. We sell multiple stimulators with a range of functions; some of which like our Flick EM60-M set even come with a small probe to get you started. It’s similarly sized to a vibrating love egg and is ideal for G-spot stimulation, so despite its tiny stature it has an excellent erotic impact.

KIX electro sex for beginnersIf you’re looking to experiment as part of a couple or individually then our beginner unit the KIX, or ElectraStim Flick EM60-M or ElectraStim Flick Duo EM80 multipacks are the perfect kits for beginners. Not only do they include our Silicone Noir Aura probe, they also come with a set of 4 conductive pads (which are perfect for sharing sensations with a lover) and a set of 2 ElectraLoops cock rings and gel.

Choosing The Best Dildo For You

Finding the right dildo for you is really easy. You can use your pre-existing dildo collection as your guide or choose something that closely matches your sexual experiences in terms of size. We detail the dimensions for all of our sex toys in our descriptions so you should never find the dimensions to be surprising. If you need any help deciding on the right toy, you can contact us via telephone or email.

Many people find that thicker or girthier toys are more challenging than longer toys, so pay attention to the diameter and circumference of the dildos you’re interested in. The average penis measures up with a girth of around 4.35 inches, so you’ll find that most of our probes are comparably smaller. Likewise, the average length is approximately 5.5 inches, so many of our dildos are somewhat smaller than ‘average’.

If you’re looking for a small dildo then our Silicone Noir Aura or Nona electrodes are the perfect choices. They’re both made from soft silicone and offer hands-free stimulation when worn vaginally or anally. Aura is the smaller of the two and has a more beginner-friendly shape while Nona has a thick tip and upward curve for more targeted G-spot or prostate stimulation.

Komodo beginners e-stimOur Silicone Fusion 'Komodo' Dildo is the perfect mid-point for someone who has experience with dildos but hasn't tried electro penetration just yet. The smooth silicone and familiar shape make this dildo ideal for beginners but with the capacity to be really intense for experienced users.

For fans of deeper and thicker penetration we have two larger metal dildos that might tickle your fancy. Our ElectraStim Wave Dildo is a bestseller thanks to its deeply ridged shaft that offers a textured enhancement to play. It’s our second-largest dildo with a 5.5-inch length and 3.5-inch circumference.

If you want our biggest purpose-built dildo then choose our ElectraStim Rocket Dildo With a 6.5-inch insertable length, 5-inch girth and a top-heavy shape to push your pleasure boundaries, it’s also our most realistically shaped dildo.

If you’re looking for a dildo designed especially for G-spot and prostate stimulation, look no further than our Silicone Noir Ovid Dildo. This curvaceous electrode boasts an upward curve and swollen tip to optimise pressure on your internal pleasure zones.

How To Use An Electro-Dildo

Most dildos rely on twisting and thrusting to create sensation, but ElectraStim dildos are a little bit different. You can still enjoy them in the traditional way but you can also insert them and let your ElectraStim stimulator do all of the hard work. To really spice things up, try a mix of the two!

When you connect an ElectraStim dildo to your stimulator it will conduct an array of sensations depending on which program you select and how strong the intensity is. For the best experience you’ll want to switch your stimulator to a pattern setting and then raise the intensity until you feel your pelvic floor muscles start to contract in time with stimulation.

The feeling of your body contracting around the dildo is incredible, it closely matches the muscular throbbing you experience during orgasm. Your body will clench and relax around the dildo, quickening your arousal and making you feel incredibly sexy. The feeling really is completely different to anything any other sex toy can create.

Ramp up the eroticism by using a bullet vibrator or by using a dildo during oral sex or foreplay. The combination of those deep vaginal contractions and clitoral stimulation can quickly build you to an explosive orgasm. If you’re one of the lucky women who can orgasm through G-spot stimulation alone, you can let the dildo do all of the hard work for you while you play with your breasts or focus on your lover.
